The Catalogued Sky from the Proxima System

1gSpace Proxima-Centred Visible Starfield

A controlled reconstruction of the bright and intermediate stellar sky for an observer represented by the Proxima Centauri system barycentre proxy. Catalogue sources were propagated to the frozen reference epoch and transformed to their observer-relative directions, apparent visual magnitudes, relative fluxes and display colours.

The foreground contains exactly 1,491,263 unique catalogue sources selected to Proxima apparent V ≤ 11.5. Proxima Centauri is omitted because it defines the observer origin; Alpha Centauri A and B remain present at their reconstructed Proxima-view directions. The products are controlled scientific visualizations rather than photographs or calibrated radiance maps. Matching transparent constellation-line overlays are supplied in both publication coordinate frames.

Scientific Basis

1,491,263 Stars, Transformed Source by Source

This reconstruction is built from individually identified catalogue sources rather than procedurally placed or randomized points. Every source in the accepted foreground population was processed from catalogue astrometry into a Proxima-centred observer solution before rendering. The resulting map preserves source identity and places each star at its calculated Proxima-view line-of-sight direction with observer-relative photometry.

Catalogue Assembly

Hipparcos, Tycho, Bright Star, XHIP and Gaia-enriched records were consolidated, cross-identified and de-duplicated into a controlled stellar population.

Three-Dimensional Source Solution

Available positions, parallaxes, proper motions and radial velocities were used to construct and propagate the accepted spatial source solutions to the frozen epoch.

Proxima Observer Transformation

The observer position was translated to the Proxima Centauri system barycentre proxy. Each valid source direction and distance were then recalculated from that new origin.

Observer-Relative Rendering

The transformed directions, apparent V magnitudes, relative fluxes and catalogue-derived colours were frozen before direct projection into the publication maps.

Defined Model Limitations

  • The foreground is complete only within the accepted fused catalogue, quality policy and Proxima apparent V ≤ 11.5 selection.
  • The fixed distant-sky context cannot reproduce the parallax of individual embedded sources or diffuse structures without per-pixel distance information.
  • Stellar variability, unresolved orbital motion, transient activity and time-dependent extinction are not evaluated.
  • Rendered stellar cores, wings and halos are normalized point-spread functions for unresolved sources, not physical stellar angular diameters.

Starfield, Constellation and Source Products

Full-sky publication maps and matching transparent constellation-line overlays are provided in ICRS and Galactic coordinates. Three diagnostic SOURCE families expose the transformed foreground and retained context independently of the natural-colour presentation.

Request-Only Technical Products

Linear OpenEXR Masters up to 64K

Linear catalogue-foreground and visible composite masters can be supplied at nominal widths up to 65536 pixels. These files preserve floating-point linear data for HDR compositing, spherical rendering, regional reprocessing and professional integration workflows.

EXR masters are not ordinary display images and are not hosted as unrestricted direct downloads because of their size and technical delivery requirements. Availability, resolution, applicable terms and delivery method are confirmed for each request.
